A Shot in the Dark by Neil Richards and Matthew Costello

Hey everyone, Yade here! Today I bring to you another blog tour. This time I’ll be doing my “reading blog” and maybe something extra at the end ;).

Let’s start with the blurb/synopsis of the book:

Sussex, England, 1929.

Mydworth is a sleepy English market town just 50 miles from London. But things are about to liven up there considerably, when young Sir Harry Mortimer returns home from his government posting in Cairo, with his unconventional American wife – Kat Reilly.

No sooner have the two arrived, when a jewel robbery occurs at Harry’s aunt’s home – Mydworth Manor – ending in one of the thieves being shot…and killed.

The local police are baffled by the case. But Harry and Kat have an edge in the hunt for the second thief: not only do they have certain useful “skills” they’ve both picked up in service of King, President and Country, they also have access to parts of English high society that your average bobby can’t reach.

Because this Shot in the Dark…could have come from anywhere.

  • Prologue in and I feel similarities to Agatha Christie style. Let’s see how it goes.
  • Chapter 2: I’m a little bit lost with this transition and story but her husband is making me doubt about him.
  • Chapter 3: Um… the transitions between the two characters are so sudden that it takes me by surprise, but at least they cut off some stuff that aren’t that important to the story.
  • I have a theory of what might happen… let’s hope I’m wrong.
  • Chapter 4: Let’s get this started! (The title of this one tell me that we are going to read something good).
  • I was so wrong but this was so good!
  • Chapter 5: WHY WOULD YOU TOUCH A DEAD BODY?! YOU ARE GOING TO END UP AS A SUSPECT! 🤦🏻‍♀️
  • Why is Harry so mysterious…? Why?
  • Chapter 6: I bet is the chapter to make us think there is a clear culprit… I like this 😂
  • The question for the investigation are so vague and obvious, as Kat says, that feels like I’m watching a real life amateur investigator.
  • Chapter 7: this one was interesting, but so confusing. Not the writing or something technical, just the story and what the characters are saying, I don’t trust ANYONE.
  • Chapter 8: I think this one is going to have some action in it because of the title, let’s hope it does.
  • Ummm… I have another theory that might be wrong too 😂
  • Chapter 9: NO, NO, NO THEY’RE GOING TO PLAN WHAT TO SAY!
  • Chapter 10: Yes Harry, yes.
  • Chapter 11: THAT WAS SOOO GOOD.
  • Chapter 12: ummm… this was good, nothing out of this world.
  • Chapter 13: I want to go to that market, seems lovely.
  • Chapter 14: interesting… 🤔
  • Chapter 15: OK… this proves me that it isn’t my theory 😭
  • Chapter 16: … no comment
  • Chapter 17: HOW CAN YOU BE SO BLIND?! YOU ARE THE ONE WHO ARE SUPPOSE TO GO AND SEE WHAT’S WRONG, NOT HER! 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️
  • That ending of this chapter was so funny #CoupleGoals
  • Chapter 18: Can’t wait for their next adventure.

So, there you go! I want to thank the publishers for the opportunity to read this book and star this series! It was really short (aprox 130 pages) and fun to read, and I still think it has similar storylines as Agatha Christie’s books which is not a bad thing. Here is one link to buy the book and now… something extra for this post, hope you enjoy!

Thank you for reading this post, hope you enjoyed it. Keep reading and creating! I’ll see you soon with a new post, take care! Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
